FMX 210 - Digital Media

  I definitely spent the most time working on my animation out of any other project. It took my a lot of hours spanning over many days, and my animation totaled about 358 frames. I filmed my friend Lena having a meltdown over Gossip Girl and then animated it, and I love looking back at it and seeing an animated version of her freaking out. The soundtrack to go along with the animation took me a while to figure out because I didn’t know what type of music would go along with her freaking out, however I am proud of the outcome. I spent a lot of time working on this project, but I think it went towards a great outcome, as I genuinely want to show other people my animation because of the amount of effort I put in making it. I pushed myself a lot with this project, but it was completely worth it looking at the end product.

 The autoscopy project also gave the ability to self-reflect and artistically showcase a part of myself, and for that I focused on my self-doubt. I wanted to highlight the different aspects of my life that I sometimes never feel enough, whether it be that my work isn’t good enough, my body, my worth - I wanted to represent the parts of me that I doubt. I added the hands with the different categories to represent how these doubts can pull away at your mental health, and then the catches on my face because doubt definitely claws at me all the time. I went with more of a monochromatic color palette, staying in the blue family since that color to me symbolizes doubt and is generally a sadder color. Overall, I am proud of the project and glad that I had the chance to symbolize these doubts, but I would change the color palette and find a different way to show the different categories I doubt myself in if I ever redid this project.  I really enjoyed myself with this project. There were a few hiccups when shooting the different versions of me, the camera position slightly changed which proved difficult when editing all these version of myself into one photo. However, despite that, I am proud of this project and how the different me’s in the photo look. If I did this again, I would definitely place my phone on a table or something to stablize it and make sure that the camera doesn’t move around in any way.

 My somewhere project definitely did not turn out how I wanted it to. I had trouble finding screencaps from shows and movies I love to edit myself into, and when I finally chose one, editing myself into it didn’t work out how I wanted it to. The texture of my sweater doesn’t lend well to being scaled and in some sizes looks off, and playing with the noise of the scene and the lighting/coloring was difficult. If I did this project again, I would choose a different movie scene and wear different clothing with less texture, however I still think it was helpful to learn how to edit something or someone into a photo.

 My BW to Color project was definitely my hardest up this point. It was difficult for me to select color palettes and figure out where I wanted the colors to go on the photo. Creating the masks took a lot of time and was a painstaking process, and the outcome was not one I particularly liked. I went back and revised the project, however this is still a project I would like to go back to or maybe just restart entirely with a different photo and new masks so I can make it great. Still, it was helpful learning how to create multiple masks on a photo which will aid me in the future.

 I had a lot of fun with my poster. Using Illustrator, I created a poster using the phrase “happiness is a butterfly”. The inspiration came from my calligram project and the self-reflection I went through when asking my future self if I was happy. I didn’t want fully imagine a future and dictate what would make me explicitly happy, rather leaving it open-ended, because searching for happiness won’t yield it; happiness comes in the moments you don’t expect it, so I made my poster to reflect that. My first poster had a lot of noise, which I cleaned up for my final version, but overall I do like how my poster turned out, and I definitely enjoyed the process of making it.

  This was my favorite project of the semester.  As a writer, this form of expression is one that allows me to be the most vulnerable and self-reflective. The words of the calligram came from a letter I wrote to my future self, and already that’s something deeply personal, but expressing my face through these words allowed me to truly express myself in a portrait art style. I wouldn’t do anything differently, I think the texture looks good and the words that I wrote reflect me and my desires for my future self, causing it to be the most personal and my favorite project that I will always remember even if I never make another calligram.

           Dear Me,          How has life treated you? Coming from someone who doesn’t know exactly what they want to do for the rest of their life and is just faking until they make it, I hope you made it. I hope, above anything else, that you’re happy, because I don’t know what life could be like for you. Whether you live on the east coast or the west, whether you work at a small or large business, or you have forged another path in life.          I idealize my life, with what it can be, and I hope that doesn’t make me unhappy with reality. No matter where life took you, I hope it’s good. In my last letter to my future self, I mentioned all my friends, if I keep in touch with them, but I doubt that I do by now. They’re probably distant memories of a past life, but I hope the relationships I have now are just as fulfilling.      ...

 The logos/business cards project definitely challenged me in a different way creatively. I had to take several words and represent them visually as they relate to me, before deciding to make my logo out of the word “imaginative”. Overall, I’m incredibly proud of this project and how I represented the word in a unique way that I didn’t see a lot when researching logos of the word. This also gave me a chance to figure out another part of designing that I enjoy, something I hope I can recreate in the future. I enjoyed creating logos and business cards and wouldn’t be opposed to doing it again.

  My first project for this class was completed using Adobe Dreamweaver. Before this, I had never coded anything in my life, but this opportunity showed me how much time and dedication it takes to code, and also sparked my own interest in it. I created Genie from Aladdin because Genie is my favorite character from any Disney movie. It took me multiple days to complete as I meticulously created curve after curve, but overall I am incredibly proud about what I managed to complete. Some of the curves are still a bit angular, which is something I’ll be weary about if I code anything again in the future.

 

 

 Hello! I'm Sydney. I'm originally from Georgia and, sadly, I did have to leave my cat when coming to UT. I love listening to music and watching different movies and TV shows, currently I'm about half-way through The Haunting of Bly Manor . I'm most interested right now in being a screenwriter because I already love writing and story telling, but I think producing or editing would also be cool so I'm hoping to try those aspects of film here!
